Tina Cusker, owner of La Cuisine (pictured left), curates dining experiences for her clients as a part of her kitchen consultation services.

As soon as you step through La Cuisine’s doors on Bozeman’s West Main Street, it becomes clear that the shop is more than a culinary retail space. It creates a sense of welcoming. Each piece of kitchenware is carefully selected to inspire. The tall ceilings and expansive windows let the light flow in, allowing each display to glisten.

Tina Cusker stands at the center of it all. As owner of La Cuisine, she exudes a driven, passionate, and attentive energy. She holds extensive knowledge about the thousands of items in the store’s inventory. Beyond that, Tina expresses a genuine interest in her customers. She asks inquisitive questions, gathering insight into how each person cooks, gathers, hosts, and lives day to day.

“The business is very much built on the concept of community,” Tina explains. “It’s not about a singular transaction or sale. It’s about building the relationship first.”

La Cuisine has been collaborating with local artisans, chefs, and other small businesses ever since it opened in 2021. Collaborations through weekly cooking classes and showcases have not only helped knit the community together, they have strengthened the local economy.

She explains how “when one small business thrives, another small business thrives.”

Now La Cuisine is shifting its business model, but the mission remains. After Tina’s daughter recently welcomed twins, Tina found herself considering how to balance her time as a busy business owner and a new grandmother. As strongly as she values the establishment she’s built, she remembers that family always comes first.

The space has transitioned into an appointment-based model, where customers can schedule a simple, personalized shopping experience or a kitchen consultation. La Cuisine helps clients outfit their dining rooms and kitchens, tailored to their own lifestyles.

Tina and her team have adopted an appointment-based model for customers and prepare custom settings as well as offer in-store shopping.

“How do you cook? What’s important for you when you entertain? How do you gather people?” she asks, explaining that her typical customer is someone who finds joy in feeding and hosting others. The consultations serve to support that experience.

“We want people to know there is no minimum purchase requirement for any appointment, whether to pick up a couple items or outfit the perfect dining table,” Tina says, adding that she wants to encourage customers to explore the possibilities when creating meaningful gathering spaces in their homes.

Tina selects high-quality items for her inventory and intends to sell these items to her clients with the hope that they never have to replace them. This intentional and personalized model aligns with the practical shift of reducing shop hours.

With this shift, Tina’s philosophy behind her business stays strong. These one-on-one interactions stay central to its purpose. Rather than stepping away, Tina is reshaping the company’s structure while maintaining its integrity. This shift allows the priorities of family and community to coexist.

One of the strongest centers for human connection is food. La Cuisine continues to foster these connections through its many offerings. Although it might look different going forward, the soul of the mission remains: community connection through food.

MOVING FORWARD

The La Cuisine showroom will open its door on the first Friday and Saturday of each month, from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Shop owner Tina Cusker encourages customers to reach out to her personally if they wish to set up an appointment outside of these hours.

La Cuisine will continue to offer online sales and curated kitchen consultations, as well as special pop-up events announced on the shop’s website and in its newsletter. With these recent changes, weekly cooking classes have been put on pause for the time being, but the commercial kitchen remains available for special events, showers, or commissary use.

Appointments and consultations do not require a minimum purchase. They are intended for customers to learn more about products, functions, and the feel of their kitchen and dining spaces.
